Direct Ballot Initiatives
I strongly believe that we should allow direct ballot initiatives in our state. What this would mean is that the citizens of our state would have the right to vote directly on political issues that are facing our state in the November elections, provided that they get a certain number of signatures from the residents of our state. The majority of states in our country have direct ballot initiatives, and I believe it would be good for our state to enact this policy. Direct ballot initiatives would give the people of our state more of a direct say regarding the direction in which our state should go, and I tend to trust the will of the people over our elected representatives, many of whom really don’t represent the will of their constituents. If I’m fortunate enough to be elected to the state Senate, I plan to introduce the idea of direct ballot initiatives and get it passed into law.
